Edgy Easter Jesus

When I was doing my undergraduate degree in art history many moons ago one of the committee members for my candidacy for the ministry questioned this choice. Another commended me and noted that some of the greatest art in Western culture was sponsored by the Christian church. Amen.

I was interested to see that the Vatican is issuing a new Easter stamp with an edgier look. In fact it features street art  based on the Ascension by Heinrich Hofmann, a painter of the 19th century. The street art can be found near the bridge called Ponte Vittorio Emanuele II in Rome.

Hey, why not? At the end of Revelation the one seated on the throne said “See, I am making all things new.

  1. I always enjoyed your illustrated sermons . I learned a lot more about art than I had known before.

  2. I appreciate your observation Judy. I discovered through the years that many people are visual learners who that using images enhance the spoken word and evoked thought and emotion in a different way. And I loved searching out the appropriate works of art and photos which enriched what I was hoping to convey.
