God, America & Voting

Image result for midterm voter lineups

Some Americans are surprised by and even belligerent about the degree to which Canadians follow the US political scene. A lot of them don't get that Canada is America's biggest trading partner, biggest supplier of oil, and the largest supplier of maple syrup and beaver pelts. The beaver pelt thing may not be true. Our economy is largely tied to the US economy, like it or not. Then there is the train wreck of President Donald Trump. How could this be real?

We have relatives in the States who will be going to the polls today to vote in the mid-term elections. The non-religious members of the family will be voting Democrat. The religious ones will likely vote Trump, even though he's not on any ballot. Go figure. This is a referendum on Trump for many Republicans and the religious right has remained steadfast in its support of a person I regard as immoral, unethical, and unbiblical in virtually every aspect of his shameful life.

I am praying that the House will flip even if the Senate doesn't, so that Trump's powers will be curtailed. It is so important for healthcare, immigration, the environment, and global security that he is reined in rather than allowed to reign like some 18th century despot.

I'm trusting that the God of justice and love is in this all somehow, despite every effort on the part of millions to keep God caged up in the basement.

We'll see, and I won't be holding my breath.

  1. I was gratified to see the Democrats win the House - still a lot of work to do.... but it has to be better than the free reign the Donald has had....
