Two by Two

I was pleased to see that Canadian artist Barbara Reid won a 2013 Writers' Trust award for children's literature, aka kid lit. Actually that title is rather demeaning in a way. Yes, her work is directed toward children but all of us should admire her skill with modeling clay, which she shapes for the illustrations in her books. When you think back to our rather clumsy efforts with the stuff, her work exhibits brilliance. And you have to love a writer who has a website tab entitled About Plasticine.

Reid has a remarkable ability to evoke the natural world in her work. I mean, the scenes below are so splendidly Canadian.

I am curious about her faith connection. Her book Two by Two tells the story of Noah and the ark and where I first encountered her story-telling. Fox Walked Alone is another which explores this story from Genesis. Perhaps she just loves the story because it is filled with critters.

Do any of you know Reid's books? Are you tempted to search them out, regardless of whether you have kids or grandkids?

That's a nice idea Judy.
