Gaza, Then and Now

The terrible conflict in Gaza has affected many of us. We struggle to navigate our support for the people of Israel after a horrific attack by Hamas last October 7th while knowing in our heart of hearts that the blanket killing of children and other civilians is an outsized campaign of vengeance which can't be supported.

After our wonderful trip to Israel last April I did a presentation at Trenton United Church. I spoke about our visit to the Holocaust Museum in Jerusalem and showed a map of Israel, pointing out Gaza and the West Bank. I wanted the participants to know that the situation in this tiny part of the Middle East is complex and certainly deserves our attention and prayers.

Here is an article giving a geo-political perspective on Gaza, from the biblical story of Samson to the present day. I hope it is helpful. https://www.foreignaffairs.com/israel/why-gaza-matters#:~:text=Rather%20than%20trying%20to%20cut,North%20Africa%20and%20the%20Levant.
